As we tread into the 73rd year of independence, with much pride and patriotism in our heart, the FATbit team reminisces a verse from Bismil Azimabadi’s renowned poem, Sarfaroshi ki tamanna ab humare dil mein hai. The verse goes like this:
Ae watan, karta nahin kyun doosra kuchh baat-cheet?
Dekhta hu main jise wo chup teri mehfil mein hai,
Aye shaheede-mulk-o-millat, main tere oopar nisaar,
Ab teri himmat ka charcha, gaer ki mehfil mein hai
(Why do you remain silent thus?
Whoever I see, is gathered quiet so…
O martyr of country, of nation, I submit myself to thee
For yet even the enemy speaks of thy courage)
73 years of independence; and we have become a growing economy, setting new benchmarks in the world of technology, and making noticeable presence in sports, style, cinema, and other realms. Even in the books of the satirists who ignorantly called India names, we are more than the land of snake charmers and rope tricks today.
The prominent presence of India in the global map is credited to its vast democracy, fascinating culture, and resilience. Yes, resilience, we, the people of India, are resilient. Our resilience got us freedom seventy years back and it is this spirit that makes India special today too; just that, the reason, the cause has changed now. The purpose is different today, the tyrant is different, and we all go through a different tyranny. But the zeal, the courage, the passion is still the same.
Many thoughts on this day make FATbit ponder, the true meaning of freedom in our lives today, so we decide to celebrate this Independence Day the right way.
Today, we ask ourselves, and you,
What are you afraid of? What fear binds you?
What is the one thing that you want to change in your life?
What is the one thing that you don’t like happening around you?
What are you doing about it?
Are you waiting for someone to make the first move?
What if the first move leaves you in checkmate?
What are you doing right now? Is it something you really want to do?
India was freed from the tyranny 73 years ago; it’s time for us, all of us, to break free from the shackles that bound us in this day and age. Today, we won’t ask you to say Vande Mataram, we won’t ask you to say Bharat Mata Ki Jai, and nor will we ask you to remember the martyrs who laid down their lives for this country. No.
Today, we want you to free yourself from your own bondage, to fly freely, to let your excellence know no bounds, to be who you are, what you want to be, because this is only how you can be really free.
Happy Independence Day.
